Product Description
Sowbelly Amethyst or Vein Amethyst Agate Silver Dendrite Polished Rock
A lovely material with the unfortunate name of Sowbelly Agate, but is also known as Vein Amethyst or Amethyst Agate.
This piece is slabbed and polished on one face and it is 5 inches long by 4.5 inches wide and 9 mm thick.
This gorgeous polished stone slab is from the Kirkby collection and was self-collected sometime in the 1930's to the 1960's.
This is a gorgeous piece of banded microcrystalline amethyst, chalcedony and quartz and there are dendritic formations of native silver scattered throughout the chalcedony! You can see the black spots in the last picture-that's actually metallic shiny silver.
This gemstone material is from the Last Chance Mine (a closed silver mine) in Creede, Colorado and was once considered the throw-away material.
Sowbelly is another name for bacon and is so named because the banding looks a little like purple and white bacon.
