Product Description
Banded Onyx Polished Stone Slab Napa California Travertine
Very pretty polished on one side stone slab of Banded Onyx that is 4.1 inches by 3.7 inches and slightly slanted from 7 to 10 mm thick.
It has natural internal fractures, but could be recut.
This lovely translucent brown and black Banded Onyx is from an old collection, mostly self collected in the 50's-70's, and is labeled Napa, California on the back.
I was unable to find more info on the location in an internet search..
Onyx, also known as Travertine, is formed near hot springs. When the pressure which forced the water to the surface is released, the water evaporates and the calcium carbonate settles, forming the mineral Aragonite. As water seeps through, the mineral grows stronger and more durable and the rock becomes Travertine.
