Copper Rose is a RARE red stone with shiny native copper. It is a very pretty conglomerate red matrix with specks and veins of shiny Native Copper and black Felsite pebbles.
It is also known as Kingston Conglomerate and it came from the Calumet & Hecla Mine in Houghton County, Michigan. Formed in 1871, the Calumet & Hecla Mine is an underground copper mine consisting of 96 levels with 16 incline shafts and one vertical shaft named Red Jacket. Mining operations ceased in 1968 following a labor strike.
Copper Rose was first discovered in 1962; the ore body stretches for about 60 miles and the vein is 1 to 100+ feet thick.
