Product Description
Gary Green Jasper Larsonite Petrified Bogwood Stone Slab
A unpolished stone slab of Larsonite that is 4.5 inches by 2 inches and 11 mm thick.
It weighs .30 lbs. and is shown wet in the first 3 pictures.
This is petrified bogwood found near McDermitt, on the Nevada/Oregon border.
It is called McDermitt Jasper, Gary Green Jasper, or Larsonite.
During the Miocene Epoch, the trees we see preserved today as Larsonite were once living in a boggy habitat. A series of volcanic eruptions between 11 and 15 million years ago, with huge amounts of ash, knocked over the trees and buried them, depriving the plants of oxygen and halting the decaying process. Minerals from the volcanic ash then acted as the replacement material for this petrification/mineralization, giving the wood these vibrant green colors.
