Chrysoprase is a monochromatic green chalcedony found in many places. Traces of nickel gives chrysoprase its lovely green color. The first productive deposit and still the world's largest deposit was opened in the 1700's in what is now Poland. Today, most chrysoprase is produced in Australia. Very rare high grade Chrysoprase is mostly found in Queensland and is a gorgeous translucent apple green. Unfortunately a lot of Chrysoprase on the market is dyed.
The name "chrysoprase" is from the Greek words for "golden apple" or "golden leek."
Metaphysical Properties of Chrysoprase: Chrysoprase is a heart-healing stone. It is believed to help heal from past disappointments and open the heart to new healthy relationships.
