This beautiful piece is from the Utahlite Hill Variscite Gemstone Mine, located near Lucin, Utah, which is a surface mining operation.
The host rock in the area is limestone from the Lopingian epoch, which occurred approximately 259.80 to 252.17 million years ago.
Variscite is a very rare hydrated aluminum phosphate mineral that crystallizes in mass form. The colors can range from light green to teal. The green color comes from impurities of Chromium. Variscite can sometimes be seen with a white mineral called Crandallite formed within or on it.
Variscite was first discovered back in 1837 by A. Breithaupt and was named after the location it was found in, the ancient German Voigtland district, Variscia.
