Petrified Wood Antelope Oregon Polished Slab
Lovely polished slab of beautiful Petrified Wood from near Antelope, Oregon.
This lovely piece is from the Kirkby collection and was found in the 50's or 60's. This type of petrified wood is extremely RARE now!
This colorful piece of petrified wood is slabbed and polished on one side. It is 6.75 inches by 4.5 inches and it is 8 mm thick.
Petrified Wood forms when a tree dies and is quickly buried by sediments, via volcanic activity, flood or mud slide. Minerals in the groundwater then permeated the wood, and over millions of years it permineralized the original organic matter and turned it to stone that retains the characteristic features of the original wood.
The main mineral is silica (or chalcedony), but trace elements in the silica create a variety of colors.
