These Star Garnets were self-collected near Pee Wee Creek, north of the Emerald Creek Garnet Area, located in the northern part of the state, within the Idaho Panhandle National Forests, in 1957!
The Emerald Creek Garnet Area is renowned for its significant deposits of Star Garnets and it is the only place in the world where they can be collected by the public in a pay to dig.
Star Garnet is the official state gem of Idaho. Idaho is nicknamed “The Gem State” for the abundance of rare minerals that have been found in all corners of the state. The Idaho Star Garnet is the most famous variety of star garnet and the material is so rare the only other place it has been found is India.
Star Garnet is a rare variety of the almandine garnet, distinguished by its unique surface star-like flash of light. The star that flits on the stone’s surface is an optical illusion due to the asterism phenomenon. This effect is caused by rutile or silk-like inclusions within the stone, which reflect light in a symmetrical pattern.
The stone must be cut in a very specific way to reveal this brilliant pattern, that has an almost 3D effect, when you move it around in the light.
Metaphysical Properties of Star Garnet: Purple Star Garnet are said to promote spiritual wisdom and intuition. Almandine Garnet is also believed to help one relieve worry, especially about financial matters.
