Wonderstone Rhyolite Polished Rock Utah
This sliced and polished on one face rock is Wonderstone and it is 4.6 inches by 1.4 inches and about 1.9 inches thick.
Wonderstone is a beautiful red, pink and orange Rhyolite. Though there is a natural soft area in the middle of the light part, it actually took a pretty good polish for being a rhyolite!
Wonderstone is a trade name for a Rhyolite found in Utah or Nevada, though other Rhyolites found elsewhere in the world are also sometimes marketed under the same name.
This Wonderstone comes from Utah.
Rhyolite is an extrusive igneous rock formed as a deposit of volcanic ash. The ash becomes rock after being exposed to extreme heat and pressure. Iron oxide stains create the beautiful patterns. Wonderstone gains its beautiful wave-like colorful bands from mineral rich groundwater. It gets its colors (such as tan, yellow, maroon, violet, pink, gray and more) from impurities in the volcanic materials.
The name comes from the Greek word "rhyx" meaning "to flow" because the rock shows flow structure formed when it was molten lava.
Metaphysical Properties of Rhyolite: Wonderstone is said to encourage change and it is believed to promote creativity and enhance communication.
